8 Little Men

Tonight I have the pleasure of watching 8 little boys ages 7 and under while their families are setting up for Upward Basketball Awards Night. I sent my 3 girls to help them, but thought having the little boys here would help the adults be more productive. What a great group of little guys! They play well together, know how to share, and try to include everyone. Earlier I walked into the living room and heard one of them singing, "Jesus is the rock," while he was playing cars. I told them all to come sit up for dinner and was told, "yes, ma'am" by several of them. One of them prayed for us and I decided that he must be really paying attention to Pastor Kevin's prayers because he prayed forever.......and ended with, "and everyone said...AMEN." (Just kidding, Pastor Kevin!) When they were done eating, they asked "if they could be excused," and then each one picked up their paper plates and threw them in the trash. I heard, "may I please... Mrs. Kellenberger" many times tonight. It is funny... most of these children have not been to school to be properly "socialized," and yet they are pleasant, disciplined, FUN, and respectful. Their parents must be doing something right. I have only heard one complaint tonight, that I did not have any dessert. My bad...what was I thinking??? Next time boys, I promise!

14 Days of Homeschooling

I did not write this, but have always loved it!
(To the tune of "Twelve Days of Christmas.")

On the first day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, "Can you homeschool legally?"

On the second day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, "Are they socialized, can you homeschool legally?"

On the third day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, "Do you give them tests, are they socialized, can you homeschool legally?"

On the fourth day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, "What about P.E., do you give them tests, are they socialized, can you homeschool legally?"

On the fifth day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, "YOU ARE SO STRANGE! What about P.E., do you give them tests, are they socialized, can you homeschool legally?"

On the sixth day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, "How long will you homeschool, YOU ARE S0 STRANGE, what about P.E. , do you give them tests, are they socialized, can you homeschool legally?"

On the seventh day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, "Look at what they're missing, how long will you homeschool, YOU ARE SO STRANGE!, what about P.E., do you give them tests, are they socialized, do you homeschool legally?"

On the eighth day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, "Why do you do this, look at what they're missing, how long will you homeschool, YOU ARE SO STRANGE, what about P.E. do you give them tests, are they socialized, do you homeschool legally?"

On the ninth day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, "They'll miss the prom, why do you do this, look at what they're missing, how long will you homeschool, YOU ARE SO STRANGE!, what about P.E. do you give them tests, are they socialized, do you homeschool legally?"

On the tenth day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, "What about graduation, they'll miss the prom, why do you do this, look at what they're missing, how long will you homeschool, YOU ARE SO STRANGE!, what about P.E., do you give them tests, are they socialized, can you homeschool legally?"

On the eleventh day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, "I could never do that, what about graduation, they'll miss the prom, why do you do this, look at what they're missing, how long will you homeschool, YOU ARE SO STRANGE, what about P.E., do you give them tests, are they socialized, can you homeschool legally?"

On the twelfth day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, "Can they go to college, I could never do that, what about graduation, they'll miss the prom, why do you do this, look at what they're missing, how long will you homeschool, YOU ARE SO STRANGE, What about P.E., do you give them tests, are they socialized, can you homeschool legally?"

On the thirteenth day of homeschool I thoughtfully replied: "They Can go to college, yes you can do this, they can have graduation, we don't like the prom, we do it cuz we like it, they are missing nothing, we'll homeschool forever, WE ARE NOT STRANGE!, We give them P.E., and we give them tests, they are socialized, AND WE HOMESCHOOL LEGALLY!

On the fourteenth day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, "How can I get started, why didn't you tell me, where do I buy curriculum, when is the next conference, WILL PEOPLE THINK WE'RE STRANGE? I think we can do this, if you will help us, we'll join a sports team, and we'll homeschool legally."

Korn meets The King

This is a great example of why we should never judge people with tattoos, piercings, long hair, etc. This guy used to be a member of the heavy metal group KORN. He was addicted to many drugs and became a millionaire singing songs about evil. God has delivered him and he is on fire for Jesus Christ. I love what He says about "religion" and "taking a break from church." Sometimes religion can really get in the way of your real relationship with Jesus. Let us never look down on others because of what they look like, or because of their past. Jesus Christ can change anyone He wants to, and it is not up to us to decide who is good enough and who is not!

My body's achin' but my heart is full...

I'm home alone tonight and feeling "sicker than a d-a-w-g," but I felt it important to drag myself out of bed a write a short post. How blessed I am to be able to rest in this comfortable house and know that my good friends are taking care of some of my children, my other children are helping run my dance studio tonight, my husband is completely taking care of a fundraising project for me, and another great friend is also helping run the studio by taking tuition $$$. I have a stuffed up nose, terrible sore throat, and a fever, and really need to stay here and rest. I feel so grateful to God that He has put me in a position that I can rest. Great God, Great Husband, Great Kids, Great Friends....and I don't deserve any of them. That is the beauty of Jesus Christ. He takes the lowest of the sinners and saves them from hell, then pours out His blessings upon them. That is what He has done for me and He wants to do for you as well. All you have to do is ask. He has given me everything I could possibly need to be perfectly happy and I did not do anything to deserve it. It is a gift freely given. Peace, comfort, contentment, love, real joy...if these are the things you are looking for, His name is JESUS!!! He loves you. Now I'll go rest, knowing that I am in the arms of a loving father.

What's up with the name???

Okay, so now I'm finally getting around to explaining the name of this blog. About six years ago I was at a homeschooling conference. Like all new homeschooling mothers, I was buying everything in sight that I thought I would have to have to make my HSchool successful. The kind man at the "Edutracker" booth convinced me that I should buy this amazing software that would help me create lesson plans, keep grades, produce grade cards and other records, and I think he even said it would scrub my toilets and make homemade cookies for me everyday if I programmed it correctly. Wait, maybe that was just me dreaming, but anyway... As the conference was ending and everyone was packing up to leave, the man shoved a paper at me and told me to fill it out so I could buy the software. I hurriedly filled out the usual info; name, phone, number of children, etc., and when it came to name of school, it hit me that I had not yet thought of a name for our HSchool. When he saw the distraught look on my face, HE SAID, "Don't worry about that, you'll be able to name your school when you download the program!" So I very quickly thought of something silly to write thinking it didn't matter anyway. Well, I'm not calling the nice "Edutracker" man a liar or anything, but when I got my "Edutracker" and started printing out some of those neat little homeschooling forms, they all had "Bubba's House O' Fine Learnin'" on the top (in a very nice, formal font, I might add.) After much thought, I decided to leave it with that title because it does represent our HSchool in a lot of ways. On one hand, we listen to and play classical music, love ballet, study Latin and appreciate art. These are all elements of a classical education. On the other hand, we live in a very small town and try to keep our lives calm and "down to earth." Sometimes a classical education can make you a little "stuffy" so you need to appreciate the simpler things in life, like the annual town fair, the bison auctions, picking corn out at the farm, OKAY ENOUGH!!!! I'm a city girl and my husband is a country boy. Hopefully our kids will turn out somewhere in between!
